Building Safe Futures: A Special Interaction with Young Minds

Children are the heart of every city. Their eyes carry curiosity, their voices carry questions, and their dreams hold the promise of a better tomorrow.

As police officers, our duty goes far beyond enforcing the law. We are guardians of innocence, builders of trust, and guides for a safer, brighter future — especially for our youngest citizens.

On 17th July 2025, the Nagpur City Police had the privilege of visiting Dayanand Arya Kanya Vidyalaya in Jaripatka — a school known for its vibrant spirit, discipline, and enthusiastic learners. We were warmly received by Dr. Sangeeta Hariramani, the in-charge headmistress, along with bright-eyed Class 10 students who greeted our team with heartfelt smiles and respect.

Our session was filled with warmth, interaction, and learning. We didn’t just speak to the students — we spoke with them. We discussed important topics that every young person should understand and remember.

We started with emergency helpline numbers that every child should know — 112 for all emergencies, 101 for fire, 102 for ambulances, 1091 for women in distress, 1098 for child-related help, and 1930 for cyber frauds. Knowing these numbers could save lives.

Next, we talked about road safety and how understanding traffic signs — such as mandatory, cautionary, and informative signs — can prevent accidents and protect lives. We then moved into the digital world, where we explained the importance of cyber safety. Children were advised not to share personal information online, not to forward harmful or violent content, and to use social media responsibly. What’s shared online stays online, and every action in the virtual space has real-world consequences.

We also spoke about a sensitive but crucial topic — understanding good touch and bad touch. Children were encouraged to trust their instincts and to speak to a trusted adult if anything made them uncomfortable. Their safety and peace of mind matter above all.

We addressed the issue of bullying, urging students to treat one another with respect. Words and actions leave lasting impressions, and kindness is always the better choice. We encouraged them to spend more time playing outdoors and less time on screens. Real friendships, nature, and physical play are all essential parts of growing up healthy and strong.

The most impactful part of the session focused on “Operation Thunder 2025”, where we spoke about the dangers of drug use. We explained how drug abuse can harm a person's health, destroy career prospects, and cause deep pain to families. Through short videos, real-life stories, and interactive discussion, we helped the students understand why saying “No to Drugs” is saying yes to life, dreams, and self-respect.

Policing isn’t just about responding after a crime. True policing begins with prevention — when we connect with children, answer their questions, and help them understand right from wrong. By building trust and awareness early, we create a city where children see the police not just as enforcers of the law, but as guides, mentors, and protectors.

I would like to express my gratitude to Dr. Sangeeta Hariramani and her team for their hospitality and deep commitment to their students. I also thank our dedicated police officers, who communicated difficult but necessary messages with empathy and clarity. And most of all, I thank the students — whose curiosity, attentiveness, and radiant smiles reminded us why this work is so meaningful.

To every child reading this: the choices you make today will shape your tomorrow. Choose to be kind. Choose to be brave. Choose to stand for what is right and to stay away from what is harmful. You have the power to make your life and your city better.

At Nagpur City Police, we are committed to ensuring that every child grows up safe, informed, and empowered. Because when children are aware and unafraid to ask questions, our entire city becomes stronger.

Stay aware. Stay safe. Stay strong.
